Book Week 2009
For book week our school decided to explore the text ‘Voices in the Park’ by Anthony Browne.
We used expanded noun phrases to describe where particular events occurred in the illustrations.
Have a read and see if you can picture the action in your heads!
Sports Day
In the summer comprising some team games and some competitive events.

East Budleigh Scarecrow Festival
The children all participated in making scarecrows and these were displayed in the school playground.

The Big Dig
The Lower Years and Year 6 went to the allotment for their Big Dig on Wednesday 12th November. Thank you to all our helpers who joined us. We had a very productive morning and were able to clear 3 beds ready for planting. Two of the beds had manure dug in and we broadcast wheat into one bed and barley into the other. The third bed will later have oats sown in it. The children will still be growing fruit and vegetables this year but we are also looking at arable farming.

Book Week at Drake’s

A hush surrounded the school. Not a creature stirred as everyone at Drake’s got down to some serious reading!

A quick peek behind doors saw all sneaking a quiet ten minutes with their favourite book.

Even the staff nestled down to some serious reading! Never mind those dinner registers, Joanna Harris – here we come!

The lower years enjoyed sharing books on the carpet and demonstrated that ‘reading’happens all the time, even on the computer!
The staff also provided the school with a glimpse of their favourite reading material. Who reads the Express and Echo, who enjoys a good thriller, who
prefers a classic read?

Our thanks go to Mr. Weir Jones(parent) and Mrs. Lowe (governor), who during the week attended to our Collective Worship and talked about their favourite books, including books they had read as a child. There were even some quick character changes that kept the children entertained and interested!

All in all a successful celebration of reading. Thankyou to everyone involved!
