Governors

Welcome to the Governors of Drakes School

Drakes School is a V.A. (Voluntary Aided) school. We were established by the Church of England and because of this the Church has a more significant role, particularly in employment of staff, the admission of pupils and religious education.

We have a high proportion of ‘Foundation’ governors who represent the church but we must ensure that at least two of these are current parents. The Diocesan Board owns the buildings and has responsibility for them, although they do receive assistance from central government towards the cost of improvement and repairs. Internal repairs ands running costs including maintenance, are the responsibility of the Local Authority.

We are fortunate to have a great team of enthusiastic Governors supported by an excellent Clerk. These are ordinary people who come from a wide range of backgrounds and who bring with them a range of expertise and wisdom needed to help support the day to day business of running the school. We feel privileged to belong to such a  friendly and successful school.

Membership of the Governing Body 2009 - 2010

Clerk to the governing body is Mrs Michaela Savage.

Committees

We have a two committee structure. Each committee has powers to make decisions on behalf of the full governing body. Recommendations are taken to meetings of the full governing body for further discussion and ratification.

The ‘Teaching and learning Committee’ covers Curriculum, Inclusion, School Improvement and Community and Parent Links.

The ‘Resources Committee’ covers Finance, Personnel, Premises and Health & Safety.

Responsibilities

All of us have responsibilities which enable us to be actively involved in supporting the head teacher, staff and pupils. Some governors are attached to a particular year group and follow this group whilst they move up through the school.  Others have an interest in specific areas of the curriculum  and will report back on progress in these areas, at regular intervals, to the full governing body.

Making contact

If you wish to talk with any member of the governing body, please don’t hesitate to contact the school office. All governors are happy to talk to you should you have a query.
